Course overview

In the throes of a youthful Valentine’s Day celebration at my workplace, our fun-loving committee of eccentrics concocted a competition to see which floor could deck itself out in the most romantic finery. Picture it: desktops adorned with hearts and screensavers pulsing with beating roses. Apples and grapes placed just so, and the sweet scent of strawberries (or was it jasmine?) wafting through the air. Men donned jasmine flower bands, and women proudly wore red roses.

As the moment of judgment approached, we stood beaming, confident in our romantic masterpiece. The jury, including our CEO, entered, and their awe was palpable. Then, the unexpected happened – the comedic blunder that still haunts my memories. The CEO, pining for his own wife, confessed aloud. In a knee-jerk response, I blurted out, “Me too!” The room fell into a hushed, awkward silence, broken only by the CEO’s boisterous laughter at my unwitting gaffe.

That fateful day marked the last time I can recall making such a pronoun agreement error. Join me in our pronoun agreement course, where we’ll navigate the nuances with a touch of humor and a lot of learning!

Course delivery

The course may be accessed via our learning portal, which includes learning material, practice quizzes, and assessments, via self-paced online modules. Discussions are held via an exclusive forum community.

Each week is complete in itself in that the learning week begins with a live session of the topic(s) of the week, followed by practice papers and assessment, and finally editing sample passages of the topic(s) covered in this week. Thus, each topic completes the full cycle of

  1. introduction to the concepts
  2. reinforcement through practice
  3. validation through assessments and
  4. application through editing samples.

Approach

We approach the concept through three thorough steps.

  1. The first lesson discusses the basics, such as the definitions of a pronoun and an antecedent and how pronouns inherit the properties of nouns.
  2. The second lesson approaches the concepts by discussing pronoun agreement with respect to number, gender, person and case, along with some special cases.
  3. The third lesson contains two editing assignments of around 3-4 pages each.
  4. Each lesson is split into topics, with each topic having relevant practice papers.
